The Cabinet
Table linen, place-card lettering and rubber stamps, issued for tables seated. Nothing here can be bought, and nothing expires.
How to play
Each day there are three tables: Easy (6 guests), Medium (8) and Hard (10). Seat every guest so that every demand on the list is true. Each table has exactly one answer, and you never need to guess.
Placing guests
- Tap or click a guest, then a seat. Tapping a seated guest and then another seat swaps them.
- Drag a place card onto a seat, or back to “Still standing”.
- Keyboard: Tab to a guest and press Enter. Arrow keys move round the table. Enter (or a number key, 1–9 and 0 for seat 10) seats them. Delete or Backspace stands a seated guest up. Escape puts down whoever you picked. Ctrl+Z undoes.
What the words mean
- Next to: in the seat beside, including round a corner to a head of the table.
- Directly across from: the seat straight opposite. Heads of the table have nobody across from them.
- On someone's left: their own left, as they sit facing the table. Seats are numbered clockwise, so a guest's left-hand neighbour has the next number (seat 3's left is seat 4).
- Between: next to both of them, one on each side.
- Long side: the window side or the wall side. A head of the table isn't on either.
- Seats marked EXIT, BUFFET, RADIATOR and so on are the seats “by” that thing.
Checking
Check marks any broken demands and the guests involved. If something is broken, it goes on the paperwork as a scandal. A Hint seats one guest correctly and is also noted. You can turn on “Tick demands as I go” in Settings if you'd rather see as you go; that isn't a scandal.
Once everyone is seated correctly you get The Paperwork: a seating chart with the names redacted, to save as a picture or copy as emoji. It has no personal data on it.
Days and dates
Today's tables follow your device's calendar date. Everyone gets the same tables for the same date. Nothing is lost if you skip a day: the archive keeps every one.
