Devlog #003 · the studio
Where things are
A short status report, because a few of you have asked, and because a notice board full of plans starts to look like a list of promises if nobody updates it. Short version: there's one game you can play and one game you can watch. Neither comes with a date. They never do.
CLOSED CASKET: open, and being fixed
You can play it right now, same as night one: in your browser, or as a download (the Android app is up, and the PC files will join it as soon as they have somewhere to live). Nothing about that is changing.
What is changing is the inside. We're working through the bugs you've told us about and the ones we found on our own. Some fixes you'll notice. Most you won't, which is how fixes should be. When a batch is ready we'll say what changed, rather than guessing at it now.
And a 3D version
We're also building a 3D version of CLOSED CASKET. Same job: the stairs, the hearse, the client who won't stay lying down. Just more room to get it wrong. When it's ready, you'll be able to pick 2D or 3D. The 2D game isn't going anywhere. It's the one we're busy fixing, after all.
No date for any of it. It's ready when it's ready, and we'll tell you then.
WHO SITS WHERE: in the works
Game number two is a daily seating puzzle. One table, too many relatives, and a list of demands from the family that all have to be met. There's exactly one way to seat everyone, so it's logic, not guessing. Three new tables a day, every past day kept in the archive, and no streak to lose.
If you read the last post, you'll notice the family has moved on from funeral lunches to weddings, engagement drinks and the odd 80th birthday. They argue just as much. Possibly more.
Like CLOSED CASKET, Who Sits Where will also get a 3D version, and you'll be able to pick 2D or 3D.
It isn't playable on this site yet. It's coming soon. No date, no countdown, no wishlist. When it's ready, it moves onto the shelf next to CLOSED CASKET and gets its own post. Until then, here's the trailer:
The title cards were drawn in code, and the little waltz was made in code too, same as the game's own music. The trailer does talk as if you can play it already. You can't, yet. It's a little ahead of itself.
About the narrator: that voice is an AI text-to-speech voice (Kokoro-82M, an open-source model, Apache-2.0), rendered on our own machine from a script we wrote. It's in the trailer only. The game itself doesn't use AI for anything you see or hear, and there are no AI images or AI video anywhere in the trailer. The details are on the AI use page.
Trailer transcript
[A music-box waltz.] NARRATOR: Every wedding has a seating plan. And every seating plan has casualties. [Title card: Who Sits Where. One table. Too many relatives.] Who Sits Where. One table. Too many relatives. Viv won't sit next to Bernie. Teddy won't sit next to Gus. Christmas. Don't ask. Meet every demand, and there's exactly one way to seat them. No guessing. Just logic. [Guests are dragged into seats. Check. A gasp, and a sting: dun dun DUNN.] Get it wrong, and it goes on the paperwork. As a scandal. [The last guest sits down. A fanfare, and a rubber stamp: SEATED.] Get it right, and nobody complains. For once. Three new tables every day. Every past day stays in the archive. No streaks. The relatives will wait. They always do. [Card: Free. No ads. No accounts. No tracking. Stamp: RSVP not required.] It's free. No ads, no accounts, no tracking. We don't even want your RSVP. [Card: Browser. PC. Phone.] Play in your browser, on PC, or on your phone. A 3D version is coming. You'll pick 2D or 3D. Who Sits Where. From Critical Gaming Hub. [End card: Who Sits Where. Free daily seating puzzles. Every past day playable. 3D version coming. Pick 2D or 3D. Critical Gaming Hub.]
The narrator is an AI text-to-speech voice (Kokoro-82M). See AI use.
What's not here
No release dates, no countdown, no "wishlist now", no sign-up list. Same as always. When there's something new to play, it'll be on the games shelf and in this devlog.
Tell us
If something in CLOSED CASKET is broken for you, leave a note. That's the list we're fixing from. And if the trailer gave you strong opinions about who should sit next to whom, we'd love to hear those too.
