AI use statement
People care about this, and they should. So here's exactly where AI is and isn't used.
The dispatcher's voice is a computer voice
The dispatcher who talks to your crew over the radio in CLOSED CASKET (and in the trailer) is an open-source computer voice: Kokoro-82M, an open-source neural text-to-speech model released under the Apache 2.0 licence. We wrote every line ourselves, rendered them offline, and ran them through a radio effect (band-pass, a little distortion, squelch and static). It isn't a recording of a person and isn't meant to sound like any real person.
- Only the finished audio files ship with the game. Nothing is generated live and nothing you say is ever processed.
- You can turn it off: Settings › Audio › Dispatcher voice = 0. The radio text and subtitles stay.
- We may replace it with a human recording later. If we do, we'll say so here and in the changelog.
Everything else is handmade or made by code
- Art: drawn by our own code at runtime: wobbly lines, paper, tape, rain, neon. No AI images.
- Video: the trailer is real gameplay captured from the game, cut by hand. No AI video.
- Music and sound effects: synthesized live in your browser by our own code (WebAudio). No AI music, no AI sound effects, no sample packs.
- Writing: the script, jokes and in-game text are original to the game, as is everything written on this website.
- This website's pictures: real screenshots and frames from the game, plus a few plain shapes in CSS.
- Crew radio voices are other players talking live. They're never recorded, stored or fed to any AI.
Tools behind the scenes
To be fully open: parts of the game's code (including the code that draws the art and makes the sounds), parts of the in-game text, and parts of this website's code and text were written with help from an AI coding assistant, with people deciding what goes in. That's a tool behind the scenes rather than something you see or hear in the game, but we'd rather tell you than have you find out.
If we ever list a game on a store that asks about AI, this is the statement we'll give them.
